The Purple Fountain Beech has a naturally upright single central trunk, and side branches that cascade down to the ground. It grows tall but slender, making it perfect for smaller spaces and small gardens. The serrated, pointy, glossy burgundy leaves are highly ornamental, and turn an outstanding coppery-bronze in autumn. Neither the flowers nor the fruit are ornamentally significant. The smooth silver bark is extremely showy and adds significant winter interest.
