Carpinus betulus, also known as Common Hornbeam is a medium sized, native tree which can be planted as a tree or within a hedge. They have a grey fluted trunk with ovate and serrated, ribbed leaves turning yellow in autumn and later turning brown. Green catkins open in late spring followed by clusters of winged nuts in the autumn. This particular variety is very good for pleaching.
